Do You Suffer from Altitude Sickness when Riding a Plane?

We can travel by car, by train and even by plane. Traveling is so tiring especially if you stay long hours inside the car, train or other vehicles and just waiting for you to reach your destination. Others feel dizzy and even nauseous when traveling for long hours in a car. On the other hand, some of those who travel by plane suffer from altitude sickness.

What is altitude sickness? This is usually felt by people who are not used to traveling at higher altitudes that make them suffer from headaches, dehydration and even difficulty in breathing. It is usually caused by dry air, decrease in oxygen and low barometric pressure.

If you travel from one country to another, or other long and distant trips, you have no choice but to get used to higher altitudes because there’s no other way to reach your destination but to ride a plane. The only thing you could do is to prevent this sickness by getting yourself used to higher altitudes than you’re normally exposed to. Try out wall or rock climbing or even mountain climbing if possible and this will help you reduce altitude sickness when you travel by plane.

If it is not possible to do these things, consult your doctor before traveling or take a drug called acetazolamide that prevents and controls altitude sickness.
